In the Mayan Cosmovision, nahuales are protective spirits acquired at birth, watching over people’s lives. Nahuales are symbols of energy, spirit, or strength. The Nahual I’X is the Jaguar, representing Mother Earth, Womanhood, Sacred Mountain Altars, and feminine magic.

In this spiritual retreat, we will weave the energy of I’X – Jaguar with the sacred energies of the guardians of the mountain altars. We will visit 5 Sacred Mayan Altars, where we will learn to invoke the mountain energies, prepare sacred offerings for the fire, and connect with the sacred Nahuales of each day.

This weaving will take us on a profound journey to connect with our spirituality and establish balance and harmony within ourselves as we discover the roots of our lineage.

Mayan spirituality, preserved over the past 500 years, is celebrated through Fire Ceremonies and prayers at various sacred altars in the mountains. These ceremonies aim to establish balance and harmonious relationships between Mother Earth and her inhabitants.

The individuals who guide this sacred connection are known as timekeepers or Ajquibab in the Mayan language. For them, it is essential to embrace unity and solidarity for harmony and balance with Mother Earth.

This retreat will be guided by Nana Miriam Navichoc (Nana Mimi), a native woman from San Juan la Laguna, from the Tz’utujil cultural lineage. Nana Mimi grew up immersed in ancestral knowledge and family traditions. You can learn more about her on her website.

A Mayan Ceremony is an offering to life, Mother Earth, and animals. It is performed in sacred places with spiritually significant materials such as copal, incense, sacred herbs, ocote (pine), panela, cinnamon, honey, flowers, tobacco, and candles.

During this retreat, we will celebrate the WAYEB MAYAN MONTH, consisting of 5 days, also known as the “time out of time.” On the retreat’s final day, we will welcome the Mayan New Year.

It will be an extraordinary experience where, besides connecting spiritually, you will also learn about Mayan culture, its traditions, astronomy, and connection with the Tz’utujil community.

Retreat Cost:

The cost of this retreat is USD $1,200.

• This includes lodging, meals, and all ceremonial materials
• Spaces are limited, and to reserve your spot, a 50% deposit (non-refundable) is required.
• Not Included: flights or transportation to / from the airport

Personal Logistics, not included in the retreat:

• • Arrange your flights to arrive in Guatemala City no later than noon on Feb 13, 2025. This is because it’s a 4-5 hr taxi to Lake Atitlan, with unpredictable traffic. Then a 20-30 minute boat ride to the retreat location. So, if you’re going to make it for the opening dinner, we recommend you landing in Guatemala City before noon.
  • Transportation from the airport is included.

Day 1: Wednesday, February 12

Nahual 7 AJMAQ (Forgiveness, sins, errors, the grandfather of medicines)

• Arrival and welcome dinner at the retreat location.
• Learn about the Mayan Cross for each participant.
• Orientation, instructions, and accommodation setup.

Day 2: Thursday, February 13 – 1st Day of the Wayeb Month

Nahual 8 NOJ (Mind)

• 7:15–8:15 am: Breakfast
• 8:30 am: Fire Ceremony and Cacao Ceremony at a Sacred Altar, activating feminine energy with mountain dances and drum sounds.
• 2:00–3:00 pm: Lunch
• 3:00 pm: Return with a mountain walk.
• 5:00 pm: Rest
• 7:00 pm: Dinner

Day 3: Friday, February 14

Nahual 9 TIJAX (Immune system, medicine, healing)

• 7:00 am: Fire Ceremony
• Breakfast
• Workshop: “Mayan Cosmovision”

  • Visit the church and unique architectural sites in Guatemala
  • Offerings at Totonicapán Hill
  • Tobacco Ceremony

Day 6: Monday, February 17

Nahual 12 Imox (Sacred waters)

• 4:30 am: Departure to Lake Atitlán
  • Connect with the lake and volcanoes
  • Saturation bath

• 9:00 am: Visit the Waterfall

• 2:00 pm: Workshop: “Making Florida Water”

• 8:00 pm: Fire Ceremony to bid farewell to the year; overnight vigil for those wishing to stay with the sacred fire.

Together, we hosted a series of 10 ceremonies for nearly 200 people, from cacao, fire, tobacco to Mayan abdominal womb massage. I also served as her translator for her private 1-1 healing sessions. My family and I have been hosting indigenous wisdom keepers at our home for three years now – bridging ancestral wisdom with modern society. So believe me when I say, Mimi is a master of ceremony, a sincere delight to spend time with, and carries her tradition with integrity and an open heart. I’ve been living in Boulder for over a decade, and it was Mimi who taught me how to pray to these mountains. Mimi has since deepened her community roots in Boulder, returning regularly to host retreats.

En la Cosmovisión maya, los nahuales son espíritus protectores que se adquieren al nacer y que vigilan la vida de las personas. Los nahuales son símbolos de energía, espíritu o fuerza. El Nahual I’X es el Jaguar y representa a la Madre Tierra, la Mujer, los Altares Sagrados de las montañas y la magia femenina.

En este retiro espiritual tejeremos la energía, I’X -Jaguar, con las energías sagradas de los guardianes de los altares de las montañas. Visitaremos 5 Altares Sagrados Mayas. Donde aprenderemos a invocar las energías de las montañas, a preparar la sagrada ofrenda para el fuego y conectaremos con los sagrados Nahuales de cada día.

Este tejido nos llevará en un viaje profundo para conectar con nuestra espiritualidad y establecer el equilibrio y la armonía con nosotros mismos a medida que descubrimos la raíz de nuestro linaje.

La espiritualidad Maya, que ha sido preservada durante los últimos 500 años, es celebrada a través de ceremonias de Fuego y con rezos en distintos altares sagrados ubicados en las montañas. Una ceremonia Maya, es una ofrenda a la vida, a la madre tierra, a los animales. Y se realiza en lugares sagrados con materiales significativos en lo espiritual tales como: copal, incienso, hierbas sagradas, ocote, panela, canela, miel, flores, tabaco y velas.

Durante este retiro celebraremos el mes WAYEB MAYA, conformado por 5 días, también conocido como “tiempo fuera del tiempo”. En nuestro último día del retiro, recibiremos el año nuevo Maya.

Logística personal, no incluida en el retiro:

• Organiza tu vuelo para llegar a la Ciudad de Guatemala a más tardar al mediodía del 13 de febrero de 2025. Esto se debe a que el trayecto en taxi hasta el Lago de Atitlán dura entre 4 y 5 horas, con tráfico impredecible. Luego, es un paseo en lancha de 20-30 minutos hasta la ubicación del retiro. Por lo tanto, si planeas llegar a tiempo para la cena de bienvenida, recomendamos que aterrices en la Ciudad de Guatemala antes del mediodía.

• Día de encuentro en el lugar del retiro.
• Cena de Bienvenida y aprendizaje de la Cruz Maya de cada participante.
• Presentación, instrucciones e instalación en las habitaciones.

Día 2: Jueves 13 de Febrero – 1er día del mes Wayeb’

Nahual 8 NOJ (Mente)

• 7:15–8:15 am: Desayuno
• 8:30 am: Ceremonia de Fuego y de Cacao en un altar sagrado. Activación de la fuerza femenina con danza y tambores.
• 2:00–3:00 pm: Almuerzo
• 3:00 pm: Caminata de regreso al retiro.
• 7:00 pm: Cena

Día 3: Viernes 14 de Febrero

Nahual 9 TIJAX (Sistema inmune, medicina, sanación)

• 7:00 am: Ceremonia de Fuego
• Desayuno
• Taller: “Cosmovisión Maya” (20 Nahuales, Calendario Maya)
• 2:00 pm: Almuerzo
• 5:00 pm: Temazcal y masaje abdominal Maya
