Join us with special guest, Miriam Novichoc, affectionately known as Mimi, who carries the authentic Mayan lineage into our ceremonial cacao workshop. Mimi unfolds the sacred traditions that have been a cornerstone of communal and spiritual life for over three thousand years. “Cacao,” derived from the Mayan “Ka’kau” for “heart blood,” and “Chokola’j,” meaning “to drink together,” symbolizes profound community and spiritual connections. Mayans revered cacao and even used its beans as a primary currency. They believed it to be imbued with the blood of gods and a divine gift to humanity, as “theobroma” or “Food of the Gods,” essential for restoring balance and divine connection. Mimi’s guidance through the ceremonial use of cacao, with songs and prayers uttered in her Mayan dialect, gives voice to the ancient belief that cacao serves as “food for the shift,” ushering in an era of love and peace and reconciling the imbalance between humans and nature.
Mimi will be offering three cacao ceremonies during her time here.

The event page you’re on now is for the May 16th event.
This is also only one of the kinds of workshops Mimi is hosting. She is also offering workshops around the other elemental pillars of Mayan culture: fire, tobacco, Mayan Astrology, and Mayan Womb Massage. Check out our events page to see her other offerings.
Part of our mission and vision with JourneyOn is to create bridges between indigenous wisdom and modern society. On my travels to Guatemala, I met Mimi in one of her cacao ceremonies at Lake Atitlan. We stayed in touch and nurtured a shared dream of her traveling to the U.S to offer her traditional Mayan ceremonies. JourneyOn decided to sponsor Mimi for the entire month of May 2024, to live at the family property and offer whatever style of workshops she wanted to, like an artist-in-residency. This workshop is an invitation to experience the transformative and unifying power of cacao, as cherished in the heart of Mayan wisdom.
In creating this bridge between indigenous wisdom and modern society, we aim to benefit everyone involved. This includes dedicating over two thirds of all event sales to go directly to Mimi, making this a powerful economic opportunity for her.
