Join us for an immersive weekend dedicated to learning the ancient healing techniques of Mayan Abdominal Womb Massage, led by Mayan medicine woman, Miriam Novichoc, affectionately known as Mimi. Practitioners from all over the world travel to Guatemala to find experts in this technique to learn from, including Mimi. She teaches Mayan womb massage where she lives, in Lake Atitlan Guatemala, a region that was first settled by Mayan people thousands of years ago and where they still thrive today. It’s an incredible opportunity to have Mimi here in Boulder available to teach this technique.
This training seminar is specially designed for practitioners, including massage therapists (or similar professional body workers), midwives, and doulas, who are committed to deepening their practice with the authentic wisdom and methods passed down through generations of Mayan healers. Mimi will equip practitioners with the skills and knowledge to integrate Mayan Abdominal Womb Massage into their care practices. By focusing on those with a background in bodywork and reproductive health, we ensure that the teachings and techniques are applied with integrity and effectiveness in a professional setting.
Date: May 25th and 26th 2024
Location: 700 Lion Point, Boulder CO 80302
Time: approximately 10am-4pm, with a break for an hour lunch.
Please note: While these workshops each span two days, these are not overnight workshops. Food and lodging are not provided.
Explore the philosophy, history, and culture behind Mayan Abdominal Womb Massage. With Mimi’s guidance, learn the core techniques and the spiritual significance of this practice, central to the physical and spiritual well-being in Mayan tradition. Hands-on experience on this day will lay the groundwork for incorporating these ancient methods into your professional practice. We will dive deep into Mayan astrology and the Mayan calendar, which is foundational to this technique.
Refine your technique and deepen your understanding through practice and mentorship with Mimi. This day focuses on honing your skills, developing a sensitive and intuitive approach to this healing art. Participants will get the chance to practice on each other under Mimi’s guidance. Leave ready to bring this transformative practice to those you serve, with a renewed sense of purpose and connection. Please note, this is an art, a life-long study and practice, not something you’ll master in one weekend. If this is your first introduction to this technique, consider this an introduction. If you’re already experienced in this, then prepare to lean into the next layer of your art.
This seminar is intended for professional practitioners or people who have been studying birth-work. We welcome massage therapists, physicians, midwives, doulas, and other similar professionals seeking to enrich their practice with a holistic and ancient approach to healing.
The nature of this work is incredibly tender and vulnerable, so we create a container specifically for women to feel most safe.
So, if you’re new to learning the Mayan tradition, we recommend that you prioritize coming to the first day to learn the larger context within which this massage technique is rooted. We cannot stress enough how important understanding this larger context is for this practice. Please don’t skip this part. Doing so would be a disservice to yourself, the group, and your clients.
If you’ve already learned the Mayan cosmological context for this massage technique, and you’re looking to get hands on guidance and mentorship from Mimi, you can prioritize coming to the second day.
We understand many women interested in this training are momma’s, so we can provide childcare during the training. There will be an opportunity during the checkout process to indicate if you’ll need childcare. We ask that you bring everything your child will need for the day, including food, toys, an extra pair of clothes, etc. This event is held at our family’s home and we have many many years of experience caring for children 🙂 The training will occur on the main level, and the downstairs level and backyard will be a dedicated space for the kiddos, so you’ll be able to check on them.

Mayan Abdominal Womb Massage, often referred to as the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT), is grounded in traditional healing practices believed to offer various benefits, especially for women’s reproductive health. While it’s important to note that these benefits are often reported by practitioners and recipients of the therapy, they may not be universally recognized in conventional Western medicine. However, they are highly valued in holistic and alternative health circles. Some reported benefits include:
It is always recommended to seek out a certified practitioner and to consult with a healthcare provider, especially if there are specific health conditions or concerns, as the practice should complement but not replace conventional medical treatments.
With limited spaces available, this seminar promises personalized attention and a deeply enriching learning experience. Join us on this transformative journey to bridge ancient healing traditions with modern practice.
JourneyOn and the Hartigan family is hosting Mimi for the entire month of May, 2024. During her stay here, she’ll be hosting several workshops every week on the elemental pillars of Cacao, Fire, Tobacco, and Astrology. Check out our events page to explore learn more.

Our collaboration with Mimi epitomizes JourneyOn’s commitment to bridging indigenous wisdom with the modern world. Encountering Mimi’s ceremonies in Guatemala inspired us to host her in the U.S., sharing her deep knowledge and spiritual practices with a wider audience. We’re treating this almost like an artist in residency, where Mimi hosts whatever events she feels called to facilitate and we simply support her in organizing everything behind the scenes. More than two thirds of all ticket sales go directly to Mimi, making this a significant economic opportunity for her.
